Production of environmentally friendly agricultural products in Armenia

The Development of organic agriculture in Armenia

 

Alternative agriculture, which is also called organic or organic-biological, eco, "close to nature" and so on, has been developing rapidly in Armenia in recent years in parallel with traditional agriculture.

 

The demand of organic food in Armenia has been increasing year by year, as the importance of health is rising among people, stressing the fact that organic food has a great value, because it is safe for health, contains more vitamins, minerals and other nutrients, is free from harmful chemicals, and is grown without any additives and preservatives.

 

Armenia has a quite large potential for the development of organic agriculture in the region, but for export it has to compete not for quantity, but for quality. Thanks to some of the international initiatives that support organic agriculture, about 45 farmers in Armenia have been provided with assistance so they can switch to organic agriculture.

 

The culture of organic agriculture is already developing in Armenia, as the experience shows that the farmers who have switched to organic production have significantly improved their social status. Awareness level of organic agriculture is also increased: relevant state departments and NGOs carry out comprehensive works not only with farmers, but also with consumers.

 

Processing organic fruit and vegetables in Armenia

 

Unlike traditional agriculture, in organic agriculture synthetic chemical compounds, different materials, artificial stimulants, supplements and pesticides are not used during the processing of fruit and vegetables. Here, the main focus is on organic fertilizers, such as manure, bio-humus, turf, which contain essential nutrients for plants and enrich soil with organic substances.

 

One of the main principles of organic agriculture is the care of the soil where the fruits and vegetables grow. However, for having ecologically clean and organic products, it is mandatory to meet a number of standards, and most importantly, it is necessary to pass the certification. In Armenia, all the stages of production, such as agriculture, harvesting, packaging, processing, labeling, delivery, distribution and transportation are in accordance with the standards of National Organic Program (NOP).

 

Organic and Ecologically clean products of “Sipan”

 

In 2016 “Sipan” started the production of organic canned food.

 

Stressing the idea of producing ecologically clean foodstuff, the company follows all the international and local standards in its work.

 

“Sipan’s” organic canned food and jams are rich in vitamins and minerals which are essential for our organism. Also, growth hormones, chemical supplements and artificial components are not used during the processing and production of canned food and jams. Thanks to these qualities, the products are especially useful for children. When using organic food, we are less likely to be infected with dangerous diseases, because the possibility to find harmful microorganisms in this foodstuff is very low.

 

The company's products regularly pass certification both in Armenia and in famous international organizations. That's why its products are widely consumed all over the world in more than 10 countries.
